Election at St George’s

We are all aware of the General Election on 7th May. The Parish Rooms at St George’s will be used as a polling station as usual. We are hoping to get the opportunity of taking our year 6 children over to see the process of voting. As part of the new school curriculum we will be talking to the children about democracy and voting and the way it works in the United Kingdom. This will obviously be at different levels for different ages of children. We will also be having a ‘St George’s Election’ on the 7th May. Children from year 5 will stand for their own parties and try and encourage other children to vote for them.

Year 6 SATS Week

The national tests for year 6 children will be held on the week beginning 11th May. It is vital that children are in school during this week. Certainly no holidays should be taken during this week. If children in year 6 are unwell please ring through to school. If possible we can get them into school to take their tests then go home to recover.

School Swimming

Swimming went very well this Monday. Children are swimming again on Monday 27th April. They will then have a two week break with the bank Holiday and the start of Yr 6 SATS week on 11th May. Swimming will resume on 18th May.

Class Photograph Day - Thursday 30th April

We will be taking photographs of all classes on Thursday 30th April. They will be taken in a different style this year with children not in the usual rows. Your feedback will be appreciated when you receive the photographs. A reminder that the school makes a significant amount of money from the sale of the photographs. The money is going towards playtime activities for the children.

Cross Country

The final round of the Telford Cross Country League took place on Wednesday this week. I would like to congratulate all the runners throughout the four race series. I would also like to thank the staff would support, especially Mr Blair who did all the organisation this year. The results are yet to come through but when they do I will publish the top ten in the Friday Flyer.

St George’s Choir at ‘The Place’ Oakengates

It was a privilege to watch the school choir at The Place Theatre at Oakengates in the School’s Concert on Tuesday evening. With Mr Hylton playing and Miss Turner and Mrs Branford conducting, St George’s were the highlight of the primary schools. I must also compliment the Wrockwardine Wood Arts Academy Secondary School choir. Their performance was stunning. It was lovely to see so many ex St George’s pupils continuing their singing in this choir.
