Changes in End of Year Assessments
I have reproduced the information from last week’s Friday Flyer to go along with school reports today.
There have been major changes in English Primary Education to the system of assessment. The New National Curriculum no longer has levels to assess children against. The school reports for children in years 1, 3, 4 and 5 will not have levels of achievement. Children will be judged against what children are expected to be able to do at their age. Parents need to be aware that with New Primary Curriculum these expectations have risen considerably. The reports will comment on whether children are at ‘age related expectation’. For example; children will be at age related expectation, above or below. In some exceptional circumstances they may be significantly above or significantly below.
Due to the system of phasing out the old curriculum, year 2 and 6 are still working on levels. The children in these year groups will have their attainment in the old system of levels. This will be explained in the end of year report. From next academic year all children will be in the new system with different assessment procedures for year 6 children in 2016.
Year 6 Results and Leaver’s Concert
I would like to say a huge well done to our year 6 children. We received their results from their SATS on Tuesday this week. Each and every child has excelled themselves producing some wonderful results for school again.
The finale to their year will be the Leaver’s Concert and Prize Giving on Tuesday evening next week. I am pleased to announce that Mr Roy Williams will present the prizes this year. Mr Williams, who has been a councillor and chaired the local Parish Council, has retired as a governor after 44 years of service to the school. St George’s owes Mr Williams a huge debt for his support over many years.
Well done to Ryan Sugrue-Lawrence who has been chosen to represent England in the kick boxing world championships in November. This is a fantastic achievement and we wish Ryan well from all the St George’s school community.
Cricket at St George’s
As part of National Cricket Week, different year groups throughout the school have participated in Kwik Cricket matches held at lunchtimes. Some fantastic skills have been on show and 150 complimentary boxes of Yorkshire Tea have been distributed to the children who participated.
There will be no Friday Flyer next week as we break up for the summer holiday on Thursday 16th July. The children all return to school on Tuesday 8th September.
