Changes in End of Year Assessments
There have been major changes in English Primary Education to the system of assessment. The New National Curriculum no longer has levels to assess children against. The school reports for children in years 1, 3, 4 and 5 will not have levels of achievement. Children will be judged against what children are expected to be able to do at their age. Parents need to be aware that with New Primary Curriculum these expectations have risen considerably. The reports will comment on whether children are at ‘age related expectation’. For example; children will be at age related expectation, above or below. In some exceptional circumstances they may be significantly above or significantly below.
Due to the system of phasing out the old curriculum, year 2 and 6 are still working on levels. The children in these year groups will have their attainment in the old system of levels. This will be explained in the end of year report. From next academic year all children will be in the new system with different assessment procedures for year 6 children in 2016.
Fund Raising in School
My thanks to parents who have supported our various fund raising efforts this year. The Summer Fair was a huge success this year making over £1600. The money has been spent in a variety of ways. We have supported various school trips and competitions. Extra play equipment has been bought to improve playtimes. Each classroom has had a grant for wet playtime equipment. These are all extra items that school budgets struggle to cover. With your support we are able to improve our children’s educational experience at school.
Macmillan Charity Music Concert
Tickets are now on sale for the two performances of our charity concert. Please contact the school office or see Mrs Smith selling tickets in the quiet area before and after school. We have 2.00pm and 6.00pm performance on Thursday 9th July. Adult tickets are £5 and children £2. Various bands and choirs will perform including a staff band and Telford Music service professional musicians. All money raised will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.
Year 5 children who swim in the deep end will need to bring pyjamas or tracksuit/T shirt for swimming on Monday 29th June. This is part of the water safety work in the swimming programme. Year 6 deep end swimmers will need their kit on Monday 6th July. This work coincides with drowning prevention week across the country. As many children head for their summer holiday there is some excellent advice at www.drowningpreventionweek.org.uk. It is a frightening statistic that 400 children a year die by drowning.
Unfortunately the Little Dragons Fun Day is no longer going ahead on Saturday 27th.
