Welcome back to School
I would like to welcome all our families back at the start of the new school year. All the classes have settled in really well. A particular mention to our new nursery and reception classes with children new to school. The Friday Flyer will come out every Friday as a document attached to a text and on the school website. Paper copies are available from the school office if you wish.
I have also attached a timetable for the term that can be printed off. Again paper copies are available from the school office. The termly timetable includes all the events we have arranged so far this year. There may be some additions and changes as the term goes on. These will appear on the Friday Flyer, school website and via the text message service.
Could parents ensure we have the correct contact numbers for you. This is crucial in an emergency and important for general communication.
Children from year 1 to year 6 will be going up to St George’s church on Friday 18th September for the harvest Festival. Unfortunately we will not be able to take our reception children as it is only their first full week in school and we are holding an information meeting for reception parents that morning. Parents are welcome to join us for our celebration in the church. Please ring through to the school office to confirm your attendance so we can manage numbers if necessary.
Our collection this year will be part of St George’s Church Harvest Appeal. We are asking for cash donations to good causes. Thankyou.
Parents in School
We have developed a successful approach to morning organisation at St George’s over a number of years. Parents of children in nursery and reception are welcome to come into school for the first part of the day to share their children’s early work. From year 1 through to year 6 we ask parents not to come into school. This gives children the independence they need to start the school day. It also allows us to control access for security reasons. If parents need to see a teacher please request an appointment through the office. A member of staff may have a moment to spare quickly but please respect the fact that teachers will be preparing to teach for the day.
Start Times to the School day
We had a persistent problem last year with a number of children arriving late in school. This may only be a few minutes each day; however, children are missing vital early work and in particular, morning maths. Children need to be on site by 8.45am, ready to walk into their classrooms. We will be monitoring children over the next week in school and will take appropriate action the following week for persistent offenders.
Extended Learning and After School Activities
Our clubs and organisations will get going as the term develops. Look out for text message alerts, Friday Flyers, letters from teachers and information on the school website.
‘Mustard Seed’ Messy Church
We have a new messy church Club called ‘Mustard Seed’ starting on 24th September. This will run for an hour after school with arts and crafts around a Christian theme run by St George’s Church. Initially we are offering this to years 2, 3 & 4 children. The group will meet on the last Thursday of each month. If you would like your child to attend please contact the school office.
Messy Church This Sunday
St George’s Church are holding Messy Church on Sunday 13th September between 4.00pm and 6.30pm at the Sports and Social Club. Everyone welcome.
Gower Heritage and Enterprise Group are holding a ‘Fun day’ at St George’s School on Saturday 12th September.
