Telford Half Marathon- Sunday 13th March

Good luck to all our parents, ex pupils and friends of the school, who are running the Telford Half Marathon on Sunday. A special word for Mrs Lote, one of our parents, who is running for a very special cause, the Brian Tumour Charity. I have set out her sponsorship website below:

Telford Cross Country League

Whilst on the running theme our Phase 2 children start the Telford Cross Country League this Wednesday at Dothill Primary School. We wish all our children the best over the four races either side of the Easter holidays.

Cricket Coaching

We always support our local cricket club at St George’s to encourage our children to play cricket. The season is about to get underway again. The Registration Evening is Monday 21st March 6 30pm at St Georges Cricket Club. The Summer Season starts on Monday 25th April at 6 30pm. Open to Year 2 to 6, anyone welcome.

Arthog Payment Reminder

I need to remind parents who still have outstanding payments for the year 5 and year 6 Arthog trips this year that the deadline for payment is Easter. If parents have particular problems with payments please contact school and we can arrange payment plans. If parents still owe money to school, and have not made contact to arrange payment, the school will pursue the money through Telford and Wrekin Local Authority Legal Department. We will also consider using the Small Claims Court.

Sport Results/ Sports Results/ Sports Results

Football victory in quarter final of Telford Cup- the school football team won their last round of the Telford Cup 2-1 against Crudgington. Mr Porteous commented on the boys’ outstanding attitude in a hard fought game. Next round Apley.

New Age Kurling - the school took part in this new sport with Mrs Sweeny and came a creditable 5th in the list of Telford Schools.

Archery - the school year 3, 4 and 5 archery teams competed in the Telford tournament this last week. A special word for Amelia Smith who has a real talent in this fantastic sport. Mel Clarke, the Olympic archer, who has worked several times with us at school, will be very proud of you.

School Sandwiches Start Next Week

A number of you have signed up for sandwiches as an alternative to a hot meal next week. We will be evaluating this trial over a number of weeks. Orders need to be in by the Thursday of the week before. Your feedback will be appreciated.

New Opportunities at Lunch Time

We have now run a week with various new activities at lunch time. Football has been organised behind the new, green barriers on the Phase 2 yard. We have had construction club, crochet club, film club and drawing club alongside the long running’ Green Lunch and Captain’s Table. Wednesday and Friday run are still available when the field is fit. We are working in school to make every child’s lunchtime experience a positive one.

Easter Service in the Church

A reminder that children from reception to year 6 will be going to church on Wednesday 23rd March at 9.15am for the Easter Service. Parents are welcome to join us but we do need notification that you are coming so we can manage numbers.

Year 2 SATS Information Evening will be held on Thursday 17th March at 3.30pm in the school hall. There are some significant changes to these national tests this year so we would encourage all parents in year 2 to attend.

‘Cooking Bus’

As part of the school’s commitment to healthy eating we have booked the Local Authority ‘Cooking Bus’ to come into school. Numbers are limited but a group of children will be able to spend the day learning to cook a healthy meal.

St George’s Has Got Talent

Our annual (and very famous) talent competition will take place on Thursday 24th March. Children from Phase 1 and 2 have been auditioning for a spot in this showcase event. The winners will be announced by text straight after the show. (Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole will not be appearing this year because we have better judges!!)

School Charity Fundraising – Multiple Sclerosis

This year the chosen charity that school are going to help fundraise for is the Multiple Sclerosis charity. The MS Society have been chosen by the Shropshire Star’s ‘Cash for your community scheme’ where tokens are being put in the paper between the 3rd March and 9th April. We are asking all children and parents to help us collect as many of these as possible and bring them into school. School are holding a raffle for the children, they will be able to purchase a ticket for 50p and be entered into the raffle to win a giant bunny teddy. If children would like to take part please ensure that they have 50p with them next Friday 18th March, all money raised will go towards the MS Charity.
