Welcome Back at the Start of the New Year.
I would like to welcome everyone back to school after the Christmas holidays. We will all be re-focussing on the basics and getting back into good work habits after the festive period. St George’s success as a school is based on high expectations. We need to return to those expectations this term. I would like to stress two key areas in this first Friday Flyer of the New Year. The first is for all children to be in school on time. Crucial academic work starts from the moment children come into school at 8.45am. This includes reception children choosing activities to older children doing morning maths or grammar work. If children are consistently late they miss out on a huge amount of learning. Please have your children ready to come into school at 8.45am. The second is to continue to read on a daily basis. Children in phase 2 are required to read five times a week. This is then celebrated in assemblies on Fridays.
Spring Term Diary
We have posted a spring term diary on the school website under the ‘School Information’ heading for you to download or print off. Any further events will be highlighted on the Friday Flyer and you can add them to your diary.
Year 6 SATS Information Meeting-Thursday 19th January-3.30pm
Year 6 children are now building up to their all important SATS in May. We are holding an information meeting on Thursday 19th January at 3.30pm. We will cover all aspects of these national end of primary school tests. This will include how you can support your child through the testing process.
Clubs for the New Term
Mrs Sweeney has organised the new clubs and activities for this term. You will have signed up for these before Christmas and will have received text messages if your child has been given a place. All clubs will start next week.
We can expect some inclement weather over the next few months. School will stay open if at all possible. In the rare event of us needing to close we will give a message out via Shropshire Radio and post it on the Telford and Wrekin Website. Please note there are three St George’s Schools in the region covered by Shropshire Radio. St George’s Telford (us), St George’s Shrewsbury and St George’s Clun. Check the messages on the radio are St George’s Telford. Could I also ask parents not to phone through in the mornings when there is snow. It can block the school phones which may be needed for emergencies.
Deadline for Reception Applications
15th January is the deadline date, please apply online if you haven’t already done so at Telford and Wrekin website.
