Football Report from Mr Porteous

Our Year 5 Football Team played in the Shropshire Schools’ u11 football competition, at Shrewsbury Sports Village, this Wednesday. Impressively, the team won all three of their games without conceding a goal and they played some very eye-catching football in the process. The boys have now progressed to round two of the competition which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday March 1st.

New Age Kurling

At St George’s we don’t just play the traditional sports like football. New Age Kurling is a variation on the sport of curling played on ice. We sent three teams with Mrs Sweeny to the Telford competition this week. All three teams performed wonderfully. Well done.

Children arriving in School

We have seen a significant improvement in children getting into school on time. Some parents will be aware I have been ringing the bell round school encouraging children to be on the playground by 8.45am.They are then able to enter school on time.

Please continue to ensure your children are not late for school.

School Fund Audit

All schools have their ‘School Funds’ audited as part of our legal and financial responsibilities. Part of this responsibility is to allow parents and carers to view the audited school fund accounts. This is available in the school office. If you wish to view the school fund accounts please contact Mrs Smith the School Business Manager to make an appointment.

Parents’ Evening

The school will be holding parents evening on the week beginning Monday 30th January. Year 1 to 6 will be on Monday and Tuesday. Reception will also have appointments on Wednesday. Some nursery appointments will be available on Thursday. Letters have already been sent home to enable you to book appointment times.

The parents’ Evenings are deliberately put at this time of year to be able to reflect on your child’s progress so far in the year. At the same time there is enough of the year left to be able to work on areas of concern in order for your child to do as well as possible over the academic year.
