School Sports Premium

"Pupils are very excited about the wide range of interesting activities both in school and beyond the school day." Ofsted March 2014

St George's C of E Primary School has implemented the School Sports Premium in a creative and imaginative way to ensure all our children have healthy sporting experience. We fully embrace the concept of competition at various levels, whilst also encouraging children in the joy of taking part in sport and physical activity.

The sports premium grant is spent to maximize the sporting opportunity for our children. Governors at school have always insisted on spend significantly above monies ring fenced for sport. This is in recognition of the vital role sport plays both for individual children and the team ethos of St George's School and community.

We presently employ a Sports Teacher/Coach to work across the whole school. This is a fully qualified experienced teacher/coach. We also bring in outside coaches. These include cricket, rugby, ice hockey, yoga and dance.

St George's is fortunate to have a number of staff able and willing to provide extra curricular sport. Clubs run at various times of the year in football, cricket, netball, dodgeball, rugby, cross country, infant games club new age kurling and athletics. Full details are in the extended Schools section of the website.

The school has a regular program for Change for Life to support children in school. The school has the Gold Award for School Sport.

We fully support the Telford and Wrekin Sports Partnership and the network of school competition. The school's head teacher sits on the area Sports Board and on the management committee of the LA Outdoor Education Centre at Arthog, North Wales. The school's Sports Teacher works one day a week for the local Sports Board to provide CPD opportunities for staff across the Borough of Telford. He also works to provide initial teacher training for the Severn Teaching Alliance.

The school has enjoyed success in local and regional competitions for a number of years. We are past winners of the Shropshire Cup and Telford  Cup in football. We are regular winners of the local cricket competition and finalists in the county cup. The school also has a reputation for cross country , taking large teams to the Telford Cross Country League and being past winners of this wonderful competition. The school is also a past winner of the national award for FA Charter Standard Schools.
