Working in Partnership with Parents

Working in Partnership with Parents

Parent liaison

Liaison between home and school is vital for your child’s education. We look forward to building a partnership to enable us to work together. This section of the prospectus highlights the links between home and school.

As head teacher my priority is to be available for parents to discuss issues and support you with any problems. You will see me around school each morning, and on duty on the yard or outside school. Please approach me for a chat. If you wish to make an appointment I will always try and see parents as quickly as possible.

Good schools are based upon good communication. Parents need to be kept constantly in touch with events and issues in school. At the start of each term I will send out a timetable with all the events for that term. This will then be supported by a weekly ‘Friday Flyer’, which gives parents a wealth of detail about school life. The ‘Friday Flyers’ are numbered so you can ensure you receive each one. The children also produce a weekly ‘Green News’ to inform and entertain.

In school we have a Children and Family Support Team led by Mrs Johnson Taylor. This team will support parents and children to overcome the barriers to learning that can occur in everyone’s lives.

School Online Learning Environment and Website

The school has developed an online learning environment or website. This online link to school has various important information for parents. This ranges from the Friday Flyer to curriculum plans and links to other safe websites to help your children at home. The site will contain important information for children’s learning. Children will be able to access homework and key information on their areas of study.

Parent’s Support in School

We encourage parents to help out in school where appropriate. This may be accompanying school trips or providing lifts to sporting fixtures. All parents who help out in any of these ways will need a police check for child protection safety. We will contact all parents at the start of the school year to fulfil this necessary procedure.

New Parents Meetings

The school nursery prides itself on working very closely with parents. There is a consistent dialogue from the moment your child starts School.

It is vital that all children make a positive start to their time at school. It is equally important that parents feel secure and confident with the care their children will receive from school. In order to start this process off in a positive manner, we have meetings for all new parents in the first week your children start at school. At this meeting the reception teacher and the Headteacher will go through all aspects of school life

Home/School books, Parent/Teacher Interviews and Pupil Reports

Throughout your child’s time at St George’s we will keep a consistent dialogue with you about your child’s progress. A Home/School book will be used to set homework and allow for comments from school to home, and home to school.

In the Autumn and Spring terms there will be opportunities to discuss your child’s work at Parent/Teacher interview or Parents Evenings.

In the Summer term you will receive a report for your child. This will give a detailed report on your child’s attainment in each curriculum area. There will also be an opportunity for parents to come into school and view their child’s work for the year.

If at any time you wish to discuss your child’s work please contact the class teacher.

As head teacher I welcome parents coming to see me to sort out any difficulties. I have found that by sharing problems they can usually be resolved.
