In order for the English and maths curriculum to be effective they need to be supported by a comprehensive system of assessment and tracking. Children are assessed through teacher assessment on entry into nursery or reception. This teacher assessment continues through Phase 1. In Phase 2 children are assessed at the end of each term. This allows teachers to check the necessary progress is being made. All results are monitored and analysed. Parents are given consistent information about progress. This system allows the school to set challenging targets for year 6 SATS and also allows early identification of any possible underachievement.
The school is currently moving to a new assessment system without levels to conform with changes at national level to assessment procedures.
