Teaching and Learning in Health Education/Relationship and Sex Education

"Pupil know how to stay safe both in and out of school. they say they know who to ask if they need help. " Ofsted March 2014

At St George’s C of E Primary School, Relationships and Sex education is seen as an integral part of the whole school policy on health education. It is integrated into the schemes of work.  We hope to enable children to cope with the physical and emotional challenges of growing up.

Parents are informed when Relationships and Sex education is to take place and are invited into school to view the materials used. This work is focused on year 2 and year 6.

During the course of year 6, children take part in a scheme run by the police on drug awareness. The scheme is known as STAR training. The purpose of the scheme is to give children the knowledge and confidence to resist pressures to take drugs. Parents will be informed prior to the six week course, and invited into school for an information evening.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from the Relationships and Sex education programme. Please put your request in writing to the head teacher
