Art at St George’s Primary School

At St George’s, we strongly believe in the importance of creativity. Art within primary school should allow the children to express themselves, explore hidden talents and to try new things. Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination and when carried out with a cross-curricular approach can really enhance a child’s learning experience. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world.

The children use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. They explore the ideas of other artists. The children are provided with a range of experiences and their work is displayed and celebrated throughout the school by everyone.

We will celebrate this subject by having a dedicated ‘Arts Week’ where all of the children throughout school will learn new skills, take part in projects and work with local artists.

School also provides after-school clubs for children who have a particular interest in this area of the curriculum.
