PE at St George’s

At St George’s, we are passionate about inspiring our children into being as active as possible outside of their PE lessons. Pupils even have the option of wearing the school’s new ‘Sports Uniform’ so that they can be active learners each day. This was introduced following our school’s new all-weather running track, which our children are able to use before school, at break and during lunch times. Throughout school, children are also taught the importance of healthy eating and leading a healthy lifestyle.

In Key Stage One, the aim of our curriculum is to prepare children to be able to participate in a wide-range of activities by learning the fundamental movement skills that are required to play them.

In Key Stage Two, children are encouraged to develop these skills in a competitive environment in lessons, as well as inter-school and intra-school competitions.

As well as participating, through our Sports Captain scheme, children have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills by training to become coaches and referees. Our Sports Captains help to organise our intra-school events and officiate the activities that take place.

To find out more about the intra and inter-school events that take place at St George’s, please follow the link below to our school’s PE blog where you can find reports, photographs and videos about the fantastic sporting opportunities that our school has to offer.

In 2016/17, our school was awarded ‘Gold’ by the Sainsbury’s Sports School Games Mark. This is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We were thrilled that our efforts, and those of the children, were recognised.
